Hello, beautiful!
Sep. 29th, 2011 08:10 pmSo the new Kindles! <3 <3 <3 <3 !!!
The pointless and space-stealing keyboard was my hesitation point on the Kindle (well, that and the need to load the thing with books -- first person to figure out a way to efficiently digitize your current dead-tree library is going to make MILLIONS), and now there is the Kindle Touch, which is beautiful and lovely and exactly what I wanted at a price that is right in my range.
EXCEPT. They also came out with the Kindle Fire, and I just- I just -- HELLO BEAUTIFUL WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?! -- But on the other hand, not e-ink, battery life in hours rather than weeks... but on the other other hand, media and apps (does that mean I can put B&N or Google's app on it and not be tied exclusively to one purveyor of e-book goodness?? Probably not out of the box, right, but how long would it seriously take the powers of the internet to come up with a way to sneak them on - probably without even needing to root it, you could side-load, yeah?)
Oh lord, decisions, decisions! BUT HAPPY DECISIONS!

Date: 2011-09-30 01:00 am (UTC)Personally, my head isn't turned by the Fire. I like having my Kindle just for books...I'd rather get an iPad for everything else. *shrug* And no e-ink, what a horror!
I've loaded my Kindle with historical romance novels, my guilty pleasure (aside from fanfiction). lol

Date: 2011-09-30 01:38 am (UTC)On the other hand, no e-ink is a major drawback for reading, and the battery life is a concern. The keyboard on Kindles was a huuuuuuge turn-off for me, because, again with the reading fast, I look at it and just see "that's 5 lines of text per page lost!" and the extra page turns stemming there-from. I've been coveting a touch-Kindle.

Date: 2011-09-30 03:05 am (UTC)I couldn't live without e-ink in an e-reader. My eyes are bad enough as it is, I can't be messing with no more unnecessary eyestrain!

Date: 2011-09-30 03:02 am (UTC)Some of my favorites are:
Sarah MacLean's Love By Numbers series (ESPECIALLY the first and third books!)
Lisa Kleypas's Gamblers of Craven's series (especially the second book!), Wallflower series, Hathaways series, Bow-Street Runners series...Kleypas is pretty much my favorite romance author, and she's written a lot. I haven't read any of her contemporary romances, but I hear they're also amazing.
Also, Julia Quinn's Bridgertons series.
Elizabeth Hoyt's books are good, and so are Eloisa James's...though to me, James is a bit hit or miss. Of James, I'd recommend A Duke of Her Own and A Kiss at Midnight.
I could seriously go on and on about this, haha. What do you look for in your romance novels? That might help me make you better recommendations.
And do you have anything to recommend me? I'd love to find new stuff to look into! :)

Date: 2011-09-30 04:38 am (UTC)I know I rather like the Cynster novels by Stephanie Laurens (Especially the first one)
I actually own a paperback copy of Julia Quinn's Minx (most of my romance novels are ebooks) and I was looking into the Gamblers series because it was recommended to me by Goodreads so it's nice to know it's been seconded.
I tried the Lesson series by Jennifer Connors and thought they were OKish.....
BTW, they're not historical but the Crimes of Fashion series by Ellen Byerrum are AMAZING!
