Have discovered small problem with mainlining tea to help with sore throat/congestion due to flu. When the fatigue symptom goes away and thus stops countering the caffeine intake, you end up with a nasty case of the late-night stares. So now I'm stuffy, sore, coughing, and awake and the only thing that soothes the first three worsens the last.

There's something really not fair about that.

With sore throat and congestion being the main
two reasons for mainlining tea...

I'd suggest that the tea in question may be the
problem. Consider switching to a different type
of tea. There are lots of choices that you can
use to help stop the pain and congestion but
still not have the caffeine intake.

Bigelow does half a dozen of these teas commercially.
When my throat hurts and I feel like my head is
going to explode if I lay it down due to nasal and
sinus pressures, I usually put together cloves,
valerian and orange or lemon peel.

It usually does the job remarkably well.

Get better soon honey.

You can't go wrong with Tension Tamer! (Notice how I worked in the use of my Tension Tamer icon there... Hehe.) No caffeine, and you get nice B vitamins too. :) The addition of honey can help out with the sore throat. Feel better soon!
