Ponderings on the bovine mammary fluid...
May. 11th, 2004 03:16 amOn Sunday I bought a quart of milk and remembered that it tastes good. If you had asked me a week ago, I would have told you that I don't drink milk. And I don't. Or, at least, I didn't. Every time I'm confronted by that gleaming metal dispenser in the dining hall, my nose wrinkles and I pass it by for the soda or iced tea or juice. Yet now here I am, sipping a glass of ice cold milk -- plain, although the original intent of the purchase was to go with the Oreos that somehow leaped into my basket... *ahem* Anyway.
Why this sudden revelation? Or, maybe, why the previous delusion? I can recall having this thought before, now that it's re-occurred to me. I've been pondering on this for a while now, and I'm still at a loss... except... maybe... Is it because, while society craves low-fat no-cal and a hundred other hyphenated expressions of 'healthy', I unashamedly drink my milk (*gasp!*) whole? I think low-fat milk is flavorless, and skim milk is chalk water. But try finding whole milk these days. Why is that? What on earth is wrong with having an extra 1.25% fat? (whole milk 3.25%, as opposed to the 'low-fat' 2% or 1% milk.) Is is possible we're just a teensy bit too health-conscious?
