Ok, I have come to the conclusion that dialup=less motivation to keep up w/my internet stuff. Yes, I said dialup; yes, still stuck in the dark ages out here. ;-)

So, I have 13 days to catch up on, I guess. Let's see...

On the 4th, Suite 9 3/4 arrived in its entirety to take NYC by storm! (Or, at least, to go see Prisoner of Azkaban at the IMAX on Broadway.) We were part of a group of about 600 (bought out the whole showing) organzied through various major HP-fansites, like the Leaky Cauldron and the Sugar Quill. I've never been to a showing that was just big fans like that before -- it was really cool. Everyone cheered at all the right places, and clearly everyone else has really dirty minds too. That and it was just a really slashy movie. And a really het movie. Actually, there was just lust breaking out all over the place. Although, sometimes I found myself forgetting that the kids are supposed to be 13 in this film -- they're really growing up too fast for the movies. They look more like 15, and I think that affected the way the film was handled (or maybe the other way around? hmm...)

Also, the Suite was a big hit -- we went in costume -- and people kept asking to take our picture. Not that we had spectacular costumes, I think -- the sweaters and scarves are awesome, but we lack ties and the robes need redoing in a material less likely to slide in every direction when you try to measure and cut. But we were the only group I saw there that had full and equal House representation, which I think made us cool somehow. :-)

But please don't think that was ALL we did...

Before the movie, we picked up [livejournal.com profile] agatha_b at Grand Central, then we went to the Met. We wandered around in there for some while -- not nearly long enough, btw, but is it ever? Yes, ok, I'm a geek. Then we went to Central Park. Saw Cleo's Needle (How's this for taking local sites for granted? I never had before, and I went to school an easy walk from there. Had gym class/field days on the Lawn.). Wanted to get lunch at a lovely place on the West Side called the Popover Cafe, but it was utterly packed and we had a showtime to make. So we got pizza instead; the pizza place was packed too, so we ate on a bench in the middle of Broadway. Yeah, the street. For those of you who don't know NYC so well, Broadway is a boulevard with a nice wide island in the middle -- they call it Broadway for a reason. ;-) Apparently this is a 'very New York' thing to do -- go figure. (*tease Suite*) Then we walked down to the show -- see above -- and afterwards we stopped for coffee (and a restroom without a line three miles long) at a Starbucks. Then we went back up to the Popover Cafe for dinner, wound up taking a lovely walking tour of the West Side because I forgot I was on the West Side -- ("Facing uptown, the park is on your left, river on your right... Whoops! Hey, that's the East Side...") and finally found our way to the end of Riverside Park where we met our ride. (Weekend public transit out of the city kinda sucketh schedule-wise.) Half of the Suite went back on Monday to do the Gugg and lots of Central Park, unfortunately I had to work that day.

After the Suite's departure, I had to
Sunny Days. Day camp for children K-5 (that's rising -- the grade they'll be in September.) I have the "Dinosaur Rex's", entering Ks. They're cute, but a lot of work. It's like trying to herd ferrets sometimes. And then there's the CITs -- Counselors In Training -- who are 5s and 6s, usually, and sometimes need more supervision than the little ones. But we can't get by without 'em, especially the first week when the High School counselors are only in 2.3 days out of 5, because they have graduation activities. Which, without the CITs, would leave us with about 6 counselors for as many as 30 kids. Fortunately, this was a very light year -- 17 in the Rex's the first week. Unfortunately, this was a light year -- they didn't need as many counselors, so Janey-come-lately Me ("What? It's MAY? How'd THAT happen??") only got one week of work. Oops, oh well... Might be better this way anyway; I've done this twice before and this was the first time I was quite so exhausted. It's always tiring, because you have to be constantly up for the kids, but by the end of Tuesday I was ready for the weekend and then some. And it didn't strike me as a particularly difficult group... well, we had a lot of 'wanderers' -- little ones who have to be constantly steered back to the group activity, and sometimes the physical group. That might account for it, I suppose.

Since I think that makes this post long enough, further comments will wait until my next post, which is hopefully not 13 days away.
